NIO ES8 Launch: A Game Changer in the EV Market

NIO Inc. (NYSE:NIO) has officially launched the all-new ES8 during a pre-launch event held in Chengdu on Thursday. This premium, flagship three-row SUV is now available for pre-orders ahead of its much-anticipated release at the end of September.

The new ES8 comes in both six-seat and seven-seat options, offered in the Executive Premium and Executive Signature Editions. Pricing for the ES8 starts at RMB 416,800, or RMB 308,800 with the Battery as a Service (BaaS) model. The Executive Signature Edition is priced from RMB 456,800, with a BaaS price of RMB 348,800. Notably, the initial price for the ES8 is less than that of the six-seat Tesla Model Y L. Due to a trademark issue with Audi, the vehicle will be marketed in Europe under the name EL8.

To incentivize potential buyers, NIO is introducing several promotional offers, including discounts on pre-order deposits and unique repurchase advantages for current owners.

This newly redesigned ES8 transitions from a mid-large SUV to a full-size model, making it the largest battery-electric SUV available in China. NIO has built the ES8 on its comprehensive technological platform, highlighting its third-generation "Design for Success" philosophy. The vehicle is crafted with high-quality materials, tailored interiors, and features zero-gravity seating arrangements reminiscent of the comfort found in airplanes.

On the performance side, the ES8 is powered by NIO's cutting-edge 900V high-voltage architecture, complemented by a 102 kWh battery and dual motors that produce 520 kW and torque of 700 N·m. This enables the ES8 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in an impressive 3.97 seconds, with a maximum driving range of up to 635 km according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

In financial terms, NIO's stock experienced a significant boost, rising by 9.8% by 2:10 p.m., reaching its highest value in 2025. The current short interest in NIO stands at 8.5% of the company's total float, indicating considerable interest in the stock from investors.
